2020 Favorites

Yes, I am taking you back to 2020. But just for a moment, and I promise it will be good. ha! First off, I’m so amazed at how my clients handled all of the challenges that were thrown at them last year. I can’t tell you how many conversations I had with clients where we would create a game plan for their day, and they would say “this is what we are hoping for, but we will just have to see what happens.” And many times plans had to be changed. I can’t imagine what that was like for them, but every single couple was just so incredible and positive and rolled with the punches. I even had one couple who dealt with having a destination wedding DURING Covid DURING the cleanup of a major hurricane. They arrived to the Gulf Coast two days before their wedding because they had to wait out Hurricane Zeta in north MS. And their venue had no electricity so they got married in candlelight. Yall. They weren’t sure whether to laugh or cry, so they chose to laugh (and might have cried later…you can always do both….haha). I adore them for it. Ok, onto some personal things for me!

Slowing down…

I have to say, 2020 was hard for me in some ways (as it was for everyone, amiright?) but it was so so good in many other ways as well. I learned that I actually DO like slowing down and having days where I have nothing planned. I’ve always been a runner, but I learned last year that I enjoy long walks even more. I learned that when you go slower, you see more…like who knew that one of my neighbors was an amazing artist?! I didn’t, until I started walking and glanced through her open one day to see an easel with an unfinished painting on it. Usually we think the faster we go, the more we see, but I learned last year that the opposite might actually be true. And I’d really like to have more slow days in 2021. Similarly, I learned that the less I have on my plate, the happier and more contented I am. Less truly is more. And for that reason I’m limiting the number of weddings I’m taking in 2021…and am pretty darn close to closing my books! (As in ONE more wedding to book and then I’m closed!)

Videography…

I’ve had the thought to do videography in addition to photography on wedding days for a few years now. I loved learning about shooting video, and found the process of shooting and editing was not nearly as complicated as I thought it might be. With that said, I’ve always been intimidated to actually try on a wedding day. Photographing a wedding can be intense…with everything happening and not wanting to miss any of it! Well all of that changed this year for me (or I should say US….) as many of my weddings were downsized due to Covid. I got the idea of adding video so that my clients would have something extra to share with their family/friends who couldn’t come to their wedding. And then I got Ricky on board with it. And he actually took the reins and became the main one doing videography on our wedding days! It was so much fun that we have decided to offer it to our clients in the form of short highlight films. We have a handful lined up for this year, and we couldn’t be more excited about that! I’ve attached each of the films we created at the end of this blog post if you’d like to take a looksie! We are newer at it, we aren’t the best…but we pour our heart into making them special and unique for our clients!

Without further ado….here are my favorite images from my weddings and engagements this year. I’m so incredibly thankful for each of these couples!
